I have an 89 LeSabre Custom, and my problems started about a month ago. First, I find the battery dead, so I jump it no problem, let it run a while to charge. Next day, battery dead again, jump it again. I replaced the battery, same problem a few days later, so I replace the alternator. Then battery dies again about a week later, try to jump it and fry the cables. I check the voltage across the negative post of the battery and the block, and find there is voltage across. So I figure there is a short in one of the positive cables off the battery. Cable to the firewall good, cable to the alternator good, cable to the starter good. So I figure the starter must be shorting out, so I replace the starter. After I replace the starter, I try to jump it, fry another set of cables, so I must be shorting somewhere still. I have no power for lights when I hook up jumper cables, so could I have a chewed up wire running through the firewall? I'm not sure if that could be my problem or not. I'm at a loss, any help would be much appreciated. |
