Default 2003 LeSabre Overheating

I have a 2003 LeSabre with 110,000 miles. Lately the temp has climbed to 220+ degrees when driving slow, such as in traffic. What are some typical things to look for in this vehicle? The car is new to me, bought used about a month ago.

Nobody answered here yet? Things to check are coolant level and quality, belt tension that drives water pump/serpentine belt, thermostat of coarse, radiator may need flushing. Start with easiest checks first.

Running hot in slow traffic is generally an air flow issue. Things to check: coolant level, stat, rotted, clogged radiator fins and proper operation of the electric fans. If you have access to a scan tool, you can see the actual temperature which is being sent by your CTS to the ECM.

My car never has gone above 228 and that's in hot summer in stop and go traffic. Thermostat or waterpump maybe....
