1995 Buick LeSabre A/C questions

I am going to install a new compressor, accumalator and orifice tube on my Buick, but I realize the cleaning process that must take place first and I would like to run in by those of you who are knowledgeable in this area. The condition of the system is "empty", since there is no compressor in the car and I have been driving on an auxiliary pulley. I see three areas that have to be purged with a cleaning solution and vacuumed for about 45 mins. ea. (a) the hoses assemblies (b) the evaporator and (c) the condenser. Please "jump on me!" to correct. Thanks. VanBuren

Hopefully this is just a refresher.
After using the flush intended for that purpose, you should assemble all the new components mentioned. After you are done with the assembly process you hook up the vacuum pump to the schrader valve(s) and let the pump evacuate the system ,45 min.
If it holds the vacuum, then you can charge the system with the R 134.
If you don't have away to measure the amount of refrigerant just add slowly with the compressor running until the accumulator feel very cold or the inside temp at one of the A/C outlets get close to approx. 40-50 degrees. The clutch should cycle a few times a minute ,if it cycles too fast add 134, if it doesn't cycle at all it is possibly overcharged. You will notice the cycling frequency get less as you get close to the proper amount.
Do you have a set of manifold gauges to use?

No I don't have the gauges. I use the can with the hose and there is a gauge on it. I am going to go by the 40-50 degrees at the ports inside the car. I know what you mean too that the cycling of the compressor getting less as the system gets filled. Do you agree that cleaning the 3 areas, (condenser, hoses, and evaporator) individually is acceptable.?Too, I am going to use mineral spirits for the purge.

I would use the solvent made for the purpose instead of mineral spirits since mineral spirits is oily in itself . You want to be as sure as possible that all of the contaminated oil is removed from the condenser and evaporator. You do remember not to try to flush any mufflers in the lines, replace them . Also install an inline filter in the line.
