Second owner of this Buick after setting for 8 years 4 of them out side.


We have had a few issues with it one a over heating issue, I believe to be a bad fan clutch but day time temps have went down before I could make sure.


The issue today that is bothering me today is the Service Engine soon light is on nearly all the time the car is running. It is a OBD I computer car so I took it to a shop to see if they had a OBD I reader, They didn't. They used the same GM fork tool I have to short A&B at the ALDL connector and came up with the problem was a 02 sensor, for $150.00 they would repair it.

02 sensor was about $20.00, I have a 02 sensor socket since i repaired Oldsmobiles, Pontiac's and Cadillacs for a living for a good bit, so I did the job my self.

Now I am getting a code 12 crank sensor no signal.
Car has no dirivability problem, starts good and moves well, can pass with ease fuel useage normal.

My problem is I do not have the trouble tree for the Olds 307 engine I am dealing with.
Does any one have that trouble tree?

Have no idea what the trouble tree is in question? I'd change the crank sensor if that's what's showing from code extraction, those can be intermittent (used to be so easy in those days). I don't know though, the cars back then to me aren't desirable at all these days. The auto industry was going through a transition, experimentation time. Any Corvette from the 70's, whopping 200HP- Yuk. An old car is exactly that...... Looks, rides and expense of an old car, period. No offense intended but I wouldn't have one again. My '87 C4 was bad enough lol. Absolutely nothing magical about a Corvette.

 

The trouble tree is steps to fix the problem and not just throw parts at it.

Maybe some people don't like cars of the 70's but After attending cars shows all summer in this area. Cars and trucks from 1965 to 1980 are in the majority.

Roger that on the old cars. Love to see others with them and what can be done. Many are better than new, not a spec of dust or dirt to be seen. 50's and 60's I like best. Lost interest myself through 70's. Had a '69 road runner but it's time had pretty much come and gone. Some still are no better than when taken off the road I see go by the house.

A tree is just a flow chart, should of guessed. Yes, they could represent a tree with all the directions and veer offs they take sometimes. Just was thinking on my Corvette, put some money into it and could of put much more. That still would be worth nil and nobody really wants one, great to see others driving them around. Oh they were improving but not yet a C7 in those days.

 

Cars from the 80's do not belong in the same shows with the 70's and earlier models. Sure they look nice but will never be worth much. I know, I have two. Maybe someone could roll out the red carpet for you.
