Anyone know where to get headers for a transverse engine????

samueljackson 05-12-2008 09:19 PM

unfortunately there are no aftermarket headers for the 3.8s(that i know of) unless you have a series 2 3800.

but for the earlier generations you can stitch weld the outsides of the stock manifolds and port the inside. and that will take you pretty far. especially n/a, as you are.

do you know about how much that would cost???

samueljackson 05-13-2008 08:30 PM

i really dont know how much, but if you were to just have someone weld some stock EMs, it wouldn't be that much. if you find someone that is even willing to port them too, i would imagine it would be quite a bit more expensive.

What would welding them accomplish??? Are they different then the exhaust manifolds on my car??? I am not sure what your saying.

notice how the welds are on the inside. and only tach welds on the outside.

what you do is stitch weld. to avoid warping the EMs. in layers like i tried to show in the pic. each color represents one weld. Then from there you can port the insides.

Oh. Alright. I get it. Wouldn't i want to relieve the upper intake manifold. If i ported the lower one??

what do you mean by "relieve", do you mean port the upper? you can if you do it when the lower is off, but thats a whole new thread.

I'd recomend porting the exhaust manifolds before the upper or lower intake. but on those, its more about smoothing the rough casting than actually "porting".
