Your welcome Hanky, didn't do anything really. Many of these get interested in and don't know about myself. Good trivia refresher https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_pump. Forgot that gas won't explode or catch fire in a full gas tank many times, it's the fumes. Had a girlfriend (just friend) I used to see at the gym on occasion (Nautilus days). She had this Mustang in garage at home that burned down, no explosion as the tank was full. Seems her husband put wood stove ashes out there in trash and was all it took. Yes, she divorced him after that lol. Wasn't funny at the time, maybe mid 80's. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nautilus,_Inc. I never knew all this? |
Wow, not a Mustang , but wonder if that ash trick would work for me ? lol
As always, thank you for your assistance ! |
Roger on that Hanky lmao. I can just picture long lines at gas pumps getting tanks full and help wanted adds for the town fire departments. |
You brought up an interesting point. Pipeline welders will weld pipe leaks on a pipeline that contains flammable material and since there is no air available it doesn't ignite.
There are a few conditions that must be met for fuel to ignite some of which are concentration, oxygen available, source of ignition etc. Some areas of the country have vapor recovery systems in place that when a tank truck unloads the gasoline, vapors from the station tanks go back into the tanker.Because the concentration is higher than vapors with sufficient air available ,they claim this is safer than empty tanks with a mix of air and fuel. |
For sure, nobody said learning can't be fun, couldn't keep awake in classes back to school days. Brings back those times at the Naval Air Station fuel farm. I'll be damned I always had to go over to repair those Scully systems for fueling. And then the emergency shutdown system.... Won't say any more on that one, see if I can find photo. Never minded heights either so guess who was always chosen to relamp beacon? That thing, had to have green and white light with split beam being military. Be right back- https://www.bing.com/images/search?q...c+me&FORM=IGRE Darn, more impressive than I even recall. Saw everyday is why I guess ho-hum. |
I haven't heard that word Scully in a long time. Sure does bring back memories. Hoses , valves , dipsticks theifing paste all bring back some of the Those were the days, huh?
Funny thing, we all complained then, not knowing how much those happier days would mean now ! |
Hanky your sure right about that. The stuff I used to do, these days is "whatever was I thinking"; Darn good thing probably not to of known then the little bit more I know today, may not of survived at all lol.
