2011 Buick Lacrosse AWD Transfer Case Fluid Change
Hi all. What type of fluid goes into the transfer case on this car? I've been told two different things by the dealer, one was 75w-90 gear oil, same as the rear diff. Other said dexos 6 transmission fluid. Can someone confirm this? My wife's car is overdue for rear diff and transfer case fluid exchanges.

Can tell you as fact 90wt. oil isn’t acceptable these days or 75 wt. for that matter. I base my findings from years ago, if it gets really cold the 90wt. hypoid oil was like molasses in my 4 speed Hurst- Borg Warner tranny (‘69 road runner). Yes, my own brainstorm, go with the recommended transmission like fluids.

Tried to pin down just what fluid recommendation for 2011 Buick LaCrosse AWD transfer case and owner's manual didn't even list the transfer case fluid recommendation. They did ,however, recommend "Dexron VI" for the trans which very possibly uses the same as the transfer case.
If you have the owner's manual you might be able to find the recommended fluid in your manual. Something you might consider, If you allow a little of the fluid (shot glass) to come out of the transfer case and examine it,, that should give you a pretty good idea of what is inside it. Trans fluid is usually RED and gear lube is greenish brown. What do you think Rich? |
