bought this 99 pa 2 yrs ago .had 75 k on and gave 10 grand for it good deal huh . the plastic intake replaced once at 6000 mi now going to replace it again @ 105000 mi already have a manilla folder full of repair receipts. thank heavens most were before the warranty exp. now i am hoping that the engine survives this intake failure as my wife added water to the radiator prior to the engine quitting. any one have this problem?.

Patrick 11-14-2005 02:39 PM

thanks for the reply patrick. the local buick house sm said that water had gotten into the engine but that he did'nt feel like it hurt it ,so they replaced the intake manifold gasket changed the oil and spark plugs and said it runs but "poorly" and that upon further examination they decided the manifold was cracked and needed replacement so here we go again! man this thing is for sale.

Well here i am $550.00 poorer and mywife has her pa back .they changed the plastic intake and the oil and coolant,oh and a set of spark plugs.

the thing runs ok now but i asked the service manager what he did to avoid the same thing happening again , he said their was nothing he could do but change the broke parts with no gauarantees. so im stuck along with how many others out there in the same fix. man this just is not right for a top auto manufacturer with the legend of buick to put the big weenie to so many loyal customers. this is our second pa with this kind of treatment they wont be no more!

i think buick had a recall for this problem. its a known one if ure engine back fires the plasic intake cracks. and y would it back fire anyway except timing and thats ecm controlled. other auto part manufacturers has came out with ones that can withstand those oddities. ill try to look it up. its been so long since ive looked david

I also have a '99 PA and checked with Buick upon reading this thread to ensure that the Campaign was completed on my car. It was!

Does that mean that the Campaign was done on your car at 6 000 miles, sixpack, but that the fix failed and really requires the different intake manifold referenced above to ensure that it won't happen again with possible catastrophic costs?

SSEBonne90 06-09-2006 06:27 PM

You could have the dealer intall a Ken co. EGR pipe at the plastic intake so it won't melt it.

Tony S45 06-09-2006 09:41 PM

SSEBonne90-

Can you give us a more info, please. What's Ken co. EGR pipe?
