I just brought a 1993 park ave ultra, I have 2 problems...

When I turn on the heat it blows out of the top vents "near the windsheild" and from the vents on the floor, but I can not get it to blow out of the vents in front of me or on the passenger side.......if I turn the a/c on it blows out of front vents

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. Defrost is the default position for safety reasons.

Sounds like one of your vent diversion valves isnt working. You will have to get your head under the dash and check it out..

A similar thing along with a screwy passenger climate control issue happened to my 96 ultra. I posted what the dealership (I'm not a mechanic) fixed in the in the thread "Climate control acting weird??" by Ozone Ranger.

When I decided to buy the car my dad said it was probably a vent diversion valve orvac leak just as mentioned so I didn't hesitate to buy the car figuring it might cost me anywhere from $100-500 to fix.$1,100+ to Mr. Goodwrenchon accutators/modulesinstead of a simple vent diversion or leak it works properly now. I hope that is not the problem with yours though it sounds exactly the way mine started.
