1992 Buick Park Avenue, two problems, car wont start due to chip in key,no dash light
 

I have a 1992 Buick Park Avenue. My car doesn't start once and a while. Meaning when it doesn't start I let it sit for 5 minutes, than it starts. No cranking, no engine turnover. Battery and alternator are good. It's not overheating.
So, I've read up on installing resistors to bypass the security chip in the key... Does anyone know how to do that?

Second problem. My dash lights won't come on. Check fuses etc. All fuses are good and I doubt all the bulbs are burned out. Anyone have this type of problem?
I also have a hard time with my keyless trunk release. I reprogrammed my fob's and the keyless entry works but the trunk pops only once and a while.
Your help would be greatly appreciated!!

Me and everyone I know take the key fob apart and put scotch tape over the contact. These trunk buttons are a nuisance. The time I had mine I accidentally opened the trunk 3 or, 4 times and had to shut it again but the squaw that stroked the camels sack was when I went to work one morning and realized my trunk was open with two sets of new golf clubs just laying there. All night !

Yes, my '87 Corvette had the key with resistor. As I recall that can be checked and matched with an OHM meter and GM had 10 different versions of the key, meaning 10 different resistances. It's very simple to bypass the security module and is done at the module itself with a small alligator clip jumper, circumventing that part of the circuit. You really need the factory manuals for schematic and wire color coding. I wouldn't attempt to guess now and that was quite awhile ago. Can't believe a '92 Buick might be completely different?

Well too if the circuit in the ignition switch (2 wire, white and yellow comes to mind?) has dirty or bad contacts the resistor (called them chips) won't match properly. With that bypassed any non resistor key will work fine if cut to match.

LMAO original post from 2016, some of these are priceless...... You could too pull wires from steering column and go to Radio Shack and buy a matching resistor (if you can find a store still in business?) and just plug it into connector end.

Dash lights not working might be the dimmer control is off?
