Buick Century 2001 loses power on hard acceleration.

Hi Everyone,

Tried posting this on another Buick forum (Buickforums.com) and didn't a response so I thought I would try here.

I'm new to this forum and not very savvy with cars. I do know a little, but just enough to be dangerous.

Problem: 2001 Buick Century with 3.8 DOHC, 76000 miles. Car has been well maintained and always passes a smog test. Just recently I noticed a lack of power going up hills with a slight jerkyness. From a standing stop if the accelerator is pressed to hard, the car seems to skip and not be very smooth. It always starts, never stalls and idles smooth. No OBD-II lights on the car but if I connect a scan tool, the EV test is showing not ready. This was checked about 6 months ago and all test were ready at the time. I'm not trying to pass a smog test but trying to fix the lose of power problem and thought maybe the EVAP test failing has something to do with it. Could this be a vacuum leak? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Madison

On my 2000 Buick Century it turned out to be the TPS ( throttle position sensor ) you may also check your fuel filter and good luck cause the lines that run to it rust out so bad you just about need to replace all the fuel line.
