Default How to replace brake light/cruise switches

I want to replace the tail light and cruisecontrol release switches on the brake pedal but I can't figure out how to remove the old ones. I removed the under dash cover to access the area, but it is still awkward and tight. The Haynes manual says to "release the switch by pulling down and releasing the top snap clip". But the way I see it is that the switches snap into the pedal bracket from the front, so that after installation, the snaps are on the rear of the bracket just above the brake pedal, blocking access to them. I cannot reach the top snap with my hand or a screwdriver.

One of the ways to remove the switch is to pry it out of the holder.
The switch construction is such that it is retained by a series of serrations on the plastic switch assy.
Once removed you will be better able to see the release tabs in the plugs and that will make it easier to remove the plugs.
Just plug the plugs into the new switch and insert the switch in the same way it came out . Push the switch in just far enough so the tab on the brake pedal fully depresses the switch. That's all there is to replacing it.
