Question 1990 Buick Century won't stay running

Hi, i am new to the forum. My son has a 1990 buick century custom. He was driving home and it quit running. He pulled off the road and we had to have it towed home. It would start but would not run when it was put in drive. I have replaced the fuel filter, and the fuel pump. Now it will start and than die within a few seconds. I had a guage put on the fuel rail and it showed 44 lbs when the key was turned on and would immediately drop to 0. When it was running it would stay at 36 lbs and when it was put into drive it would drop and die. Any suggestions from here would be greatly appreciated. Since it won't start, not sure if it's a fuel issue or a firing issue. Service engine light was not in and the battery was run down due to him trying to start it many times, therefore no codes. Thanks.

got engine to run for a few seconds, but the only code was a 12 which shows that it is working. No othre hard codes. Can it be the ECM since it controls when to fire and how much fuel, etc.?

This is not a very useful forum. Almost three weeks and no responses. For those of you who might be interested, i took to a mechanic who found two of the fuel injectors were not working. It now runs like it should.

I have the very same problem - replaced fuel filter, fuel pump, and changed out the relays (one new one - tried in all 4 places to see if anything changed). Nothing.
Hate to take it to a mechanic if there was help here.

dont hesitate to ask any questions despite the fact that you dont have a Bonne. Great group of people there.

I think it would be the pump if it cant handle a load. 44 psi is good for the prime, but if it drops off, then the pump may be weak. Or you just may have a ground issue. The sending units and many cars use the tank as a ground. The lock rings, and anything under the car really, can become rusty. It has been in service for 20 years, so it just comes with the territory.
