well then to the business at hand..
I am the proud owner of a limited edition 1987 Buick Lesabre estate wagon
and as I slowly restore this beautiful beast of a machine back to its original glory, I have hit a snag, now, the steering column is loose, and I need to tighten it, however, I cannot figure out what size was used in the bolts that hold on the steering wheel button. now the outer two were both 7mm,
but the inner two are presenting a problem, I need to grind down a socket to fit down the hole to get to the bolt, however I tried a 7mm but it didnt work, so before I grind down any sockets, Does anyone know the actual size of the bolts in question, so that I may purchase the proper socket instead of grinding down perfectly good ones? thanks.

You didn't say whether the 7mm was too large or too small. Sometimes you can get by with a standard size socket. Have you tried that?

well thats the problem, I cant tell if its too small or large since i cant see the bolt, behind the steering wheel as well as unreachable without a long socket the problem is, I need to figure out the size so i can either buy the right long tube socket or grind down an old one to fit

well here is the old school way of removing a steering wheel. back the nut off that holds the wheel on the shaft to the top of the shaft so the nut is flush with the threads. no threads on the shaft above the nut and no threads of the nut above the shaft. Then take a large heavy hammer, 3 or 4 lb shop hammer with a short handle preferably, and smack the nut firmly a couple times,
