2k2cse 07-11-2011, 10:08 PM Hey everybody, This is a chat thread for anything on your mind. Just keep it clean ;)
I'll start.
I washed my car today. 3 and a half hours later, its nice and clean..inside and out :D
Merc6 12-14-2011, 03:38 AM Plan on changing the oil later today.
Actually Deep Creep then oil and plugs.
Merc6 12-14-2011, 09:12 PM That rainstorm didn't want me to gonna try tomorrow. Did help jump a car today. What kind of oil are you guys using?
2k2cse 12-14-2011, 09:24 PM I hate rain. It always rains here when I HAVE to do something with my car.
As for oil, I usually use Castrol GTX, or PENZOIL if its on sale.
Merc6 12-14-2011, 10:56 PM I was a redline and royal purple kinda guy but I travel way too much on the turnpike. I ended up pouring the full synthetic out in 45 days due to the severe turbo schedule.
Merc6 12-29-2011, 12:21 AM Still no luck. Waiting for the ice and snow to melt. Got another 800 or so miles before it was "needed" to be changed still.
eltatertoto 01-01-2012, 07:37 AM happy newyear guys... ive been neglecting my car simply because i am broke. she needs a throttle position sensor and a drivers seat cover/foam. the existing seat works fine, no tears even but the gray dye is wearing off on the left back bolster and the foam is collapsed from the huge ass guy that owned the car before me.
also got a harley decal for the rear window for test riding a sportster. i think it breaks up the tint pretty well.

Merc6 01-02-2012, 12:30 AM Fleabay may have the seat skins as a set. Junk yards may still have the seats as well in better or far worse condition.
Merc6 01-02-2012, 11:12 PM We had a "Lovely" snowstorm here and the Hankook Mileage Plus tires didn't really care for it. Will put snow tires on my list for next year if I don't fix/sell the Subaru by then. can't wait for the weather to reach the 40's so I can get this salt off the car.
2k2cse 01-03-2012, 09:57 AM I know what you mean. I had a 4 hour trip on a damp, salty highway yesterday, and when I got home, my car was coated in salt. It rained hard last night, so that took a lot of the heavy stuff off. When the weather clears up, I'm gonna wash it, and get some work done on my interior lights, try to fix my speaker, and finish off something I started in october. :D
2k2cse 01-06-2012, 12:10 AM Hey Merc, did you ever get those reflective letters for your car after?
I ordered some and got them in the mail the other day. Just waiting for some good weather to put them on
http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/4213/imag0021l.jpg
Merc6 01-06-2012, 12:42 AM No I went from being on extended leave w/o pay to barely having a few days off. Once this next check comes I will decide on either light silver or reflective black. I might even go blue to match my bumper stickers. were those 3D or stick on top the ones there?
Some of the snow melted and the sun gave me a nice dry patch in the driveway yesterday. Deep creep and oil change was done right on time. I didn't really produce that big of a smoke show as I did with my other cars granted I used the liquid seafoam then vs this aerosol metheod. I kinda liked the idea that I was 100% sure it was evenly distributed to all the cylinders this way.
2k2cse 01-06-2012, 12:48 AM Thats just the normal ones. I went the cheapest route I could lol. I'm planning on trying to pull the chrome letters out, and put these in right. Hopefully they're willing to come out easy.
Merc6 01-06-2012, 12:58 AM Not sure how warm it gets there but they shoud come out nicely on a 85 degree day. When I did my JDM badges on my Mazda 6 I used carpet cleaner to loosen the factory surface mounted letters off the trunk(all I had then LOL). goo gone, goof off, buper sticker/label remover and last resort WD-40 works but you want to wash and wax that area A.S.A.P. when you finnished. Old credit cards work good but not with those recessed Buick letters. If you could find a flat plastic object to get under there vs a flathead. I think the "c" is going to be the hardest one.
2k2cse 01-06-2012, 01:10 AM The warmest its supposed to be in the next week is 40* so I'm gonna have to work to get it off. haha. I have a hobby knife, so that might be good enough to get it started..
Merc6 01-06-2012, 01:20 AM That should work. When I did my bumper stickers I waited till I got to work. They have a heated garage so the bumper and stickers were warm when applied.
Been looking at all the custom CAI setups between regal and grand ams. Going to do to one more modification on the airbox and call it a day if I can't find that ecu bracket in the J yard.
2k2cse 01-06-2012, 01:25 AM Good luck with finding one. I'd like to see your car with a CAI.. something I've wanted to do since I got my car. One of the reasons I don't want to get a new car is because it'll probably be something with decent aftermarket support, unlike the Century, which 90% of the things have to be custom. I like the challenge of trying to be creative to make my car a little different than every other Buick on the road.
Merc6 01-06-2012, 01:34 AM Make sure you look at the aftermarket 1st. Nothing for my Subaru is cheap and if it is expect to use a hacksaw and torch to make it fit.
2k2cse 01-06-2012, 01:42 AM Yeah, I've been looking at that. Right now, I'm leaning towards a 2006+ Impala/Monte Carlo or Grand Prix.. there seems to be a decent amount of aftermarket parts available, and its not real expensive. At the same time, I'd like to have another Buick.. the Allure (LaCrosse) of the same era, but there's little aftermarket support for that car :\
Merc6 01-06-2012, 01:52 AM i was only looking at the engines of those cars. the 3500 was the best engine but took too much aftermerket parts that are backordered for it to work. only issue I seen with the newer impalas was the water pumps. They are really nice on gas I will admit that. The LTZ rentals always came with remote start too.
Merc6 01-06-2012, 01:53 AM The one car I could not find used was a V6 malibu. The off lease/rental 4 cylinder ones are all over the place for sale. I would take the 2011 over the 2010 cause of a few minor changes between the years.
2k2cse 01-06-2012, 01:58 AM Yeah, my parents have a 2009 Impala LS. They fixed most of the problems with the 3.5 in 09. Its a real nice car to drive..it has plenty of power, and has all the little things to make driving it pleasant. The only things I don't like are how stiff and uncomfortable the seats are, and the material in the dash..its really tough to clean right, and it just don't have that shine like the dash in the Century. I was looking at a 2008 Monte Carlo LT over christmas, and it was in real good shape, minus one rim that had some corrosion on it. I also test drove a 2008 Ford Fusion v6 before christmas, and was really pleased with that car..
Merc6 01-06-2012, 02:05 AM The newer cars after 03 in general have rock hard seats. Cloth/leather seats are the same feel untill you apply conditioner/lotion to the leather. The best seats I felt were in the 03/04 Marauder. I could drive any kind of way and the passengers with still be sound asleep.
Merc6 01-06-2012, 02:09 AM I take that back the best seats were in the "Starquest" A.K.A. Mitsu Starion/ Dodge Conquest. Now those were living room chairs custom fitted to car seat rails.
2k2cse 01-06-2012, 02:18 AM Haha I haven't been in either of those seats, but I love the seats in the Century. Even more, the 1991 Century we had when I was young. I had many naps in that car. haha. The seats in my Ranger were fairly firm, yet very supportive and very comfortable too. Then again, I can get comfortable anywhere. A couple years ago, when I first started university, we were moving furniture to my apartment (4 hours away), and I managed to fall asleep on the floor in the back seat of that Ranger. I'm about 6' and I was around 180lbs at that time. lol
Merc6 01-06-2012, 02:59 AM You will have to visit a junk yard to find a starquest to sit in. Most the people I know that have em have a working one and 3 parts cars to keep that one on the road.
Merc6 01-15-2012, 02:25 AM Snow came and took that idea out the window for the J Yard. Still didn't order the stuff yet cause i'm still torn on the mirror decal. Funny thing happened to me today when I was filling the washer fluid. The hood release cord froze in the open position leaving me to play around with it for 10 mins till it felt like acting right. Still managed to get to work 20 mins early My Life Is Average.
Merc6 01-15-2012, 07:36 AM Did I say MLIA? I meant FML! I heard all kinds of folk tales rumors and myths. More like a rights of passage. After being in a heated garage for about 16 or so hrs I co home and this happened. Most the guys I know left them like that for 3/4 years.
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k280/merc6/4c616aa3.jpg
2k2cse 01-15-2012, 01:32 PM Haha wow, that's terrible luck. I don't know how many J body cars I've seen like that..even a couple gp's, but never a Century/Regal.
Merc6 01-15-2012, 04:33 PM They were working then all of a sudden the drivers side one went extremely far left I saw it out the drivers side window just over the mirror. When I turned them off the fell down like normal then returned straight up. Today when I woke up on the way to work I used them again and they returned back to the normal "Park Position" again.
2k2cse 01-17-2012, 07:10 PM Very weird. I saw a silver Century like that today. The first one I've ever seen in person.
My dad's wipers are very loose. I think a couple teeth on the gears are worn down.. a couple years ago, he was driving on the highway with the wipers on, and a strong wind pushed them half way up the windshield from the normal down position.
Merc6 01-31-2012, 02:11 AM Don't mind me. Just blending in...
2k2cse 01-31-2012, 03:20 AM LOL that's epic. The one in the back is quite interesting looking.
Merc6 01-31-2012, 03:54 AM I keep seeing a same color century everywhere I go but this time I was able to get up close and park near them. The rag top is common here. some have the whole roof, some have just the back doors back and some just have the quarter window of the doors back.
Merc6 01-31-2012, 03:57 AM You can also see how my headlights stand out against the rest of the model years.
2k2cse 01-31-2012, 05:13 PM I haven't seen too many that color around here. Usually black, blue, and red. I have seen a purple one though. Very unusual color.
Yeah, I noticed your headlight. I still don't understand why it don't have the corner light. I thought they all cam standard with it.. I actually hate it on my car. They look so weird compared to my 6000k HIDs
Merc6 02-21-2012, 09:45 AM Woke up ready to tackle a list of things with the car like going to get that trunk popper and ecu bracket. Looks out window while brushing teeth to see snow. I might just go look at short ram air intake materials @ Home Depot instead. See what size I need for tube and filter opening with clearance of overflow
2k2cse 02-21-2012, 02:44 PM Yeah, snow has a tendency of ruining plans. Finally got my ballast back today, and installed. It was about 15-20*F here today. After half an hour of putting it in, and getting my relay harness straightened out, I could barely feel my fingers.
What are you thinking about making your intake out of? PVC pipe or aluminum/steel?
Merc6 02-22-2012, 09:45 PM I might do PVC or CPVC pipe. I did exhaust on My Mazda short ram to covert it to CAI but it has crush bends and only 2.5 large. If I shatter the CPVC short ram pipe in a crash I got worse problems than the pieces ending up in the motor. Haven't dealt with PE Pipe too much nor have I tried to buy a short run of it for an intake.
Merc6 04-08-2012, 01:49 AM Did pads rotors and synthetic oil change since last time I posted. Still debating the intake swap. I might cheat and get a L82 throttle body to modify the linkage for the LA1 throttle body. that way I don't have to dremel the plate in the process of the swap. Saves time and gives me a backup if I cut too much to make the larger LA1 plate fit the L82.
ccavi 05-17-2012, 02:39 PM HELP! The ignition key cylinder will not turn to the off position. This has happened before, but I would hear a "click" in the column and it would turn to off. Any thoughts?
