Hi I got a few questions and hopeflly someone here can

answer them for me, Last week my 1998 Regal's tranny went it

has 134k miles on it. In a realy rash move i quickly asked my

mechanic to replace it with a junked car's one. now the car

knocks a bit when i drive, nonetheless the accelerration has

increased.

1. Does anyone here know the number of the Regal GS 1998

transmission.

2. Does anyone know what kind of transmission oil has to be

poured in there, or which one works the best....?

3. Does anyone know any shop in or around the new york area

that specializes in rebuilding tranny's for GM cars.

Thx

It is a 4T65E trans but that probably doesn't help as far as ordering a new trans. It uses dextron 3 trans fluid or whatever the newest Dextron fluid is since it seems like they keep changing it ever few years.

I would recommend having the "new" transmission you put in rebuilt. I had mine rebuilt in my Regal about 5 years ago and its like new.

The newest type of Dextron transmission fluid is Dextron VI. This is what I would use.
