I have a 89 regal gs 3.1. I really like the car but I have been having some probs. with it. It wouldnt start so I have changed the coolant sens, oxygen sens, ig. module ,spark plugs, and all three coils. The car runs really smooth and strong now but it will still cut off and you have to wait until it cools down before it will start.Also since I have changed the coils and module the check engine light comes on intermently. You should figure out what code(s) the computer is putting out when the check engine light comes on. It's a cry for help! Autozone will, I believe, read the codes free of charge.

I also own an 89 3.1 Buick Regal. It's on its fourth ignition module and each time it fails, it's with a different symptom. Your symptom sounds the same as module #2 died with. Thus, even though you changed it, I'd still suspect the ignition module.

It would help if you could check for the presence of a spark when it won't start. This vehicle runs pretty well with only 4 of the 6 cylinders working, but no spark at all would leave it dead.

FWIW, the oxygen sensor only kicks in after the engine's been running for a couple of minutes.
