I have a 1994 Buick Regal custom. The battery has been running low and I've had to jump it a few times. The speedometer recently stopped working. It goes all the way to 100+ and stays there. Is this because I need a new battery or alternator or ?

Please advise.

Thank you in advance.

I have never seen that happen, but many crazy things can happen if circuits don't see a consistent supply voltage around 12 - 14. Also, the surge from a jump can sometimes damage electronics.I would suggest you get your battery / alternator fixed as soon as possible.Edited by: MrBSS

Thank you for the quick reply. Do you know if I put in a new battery, the speedometer will go back to normal or do you think it's shot?

You probably should check your charging system (alternator, grounds, etc.) to be sure its not more than just a worn out battery. If I had to guess, I would probably say the speedo is shot, but why not fix the first problem and see what results?
